Madrid
Madrid is a colourful and vibrant city. It is predominantly a modern city,
but the heart of the city has pockets of medieval buildings and narrow
alleys, dotted with shops, bars and squares. It is a great place to explore
with the family,
Spaniards are friendly and the restaurants and cafes welcome
children.
Must see and do:
- Explore the Plaza mayor cafes and shops watching the world go by – there is an interesting Sunday stamp market
- A visit to the Prado Museum – one of the world’s greatest art museums.
- The Real Madrid stadium – a spectacular venue.
- Browse the Sunday morning flea markets
- Try some tapas in a traditional tapas bar - especially the Jamon Serrano – thin slices of the best cured jamon
Madrid is easy to get to by air and the low cost airlines fly direct. It is a short tax, metro or shuttle bus journey into town. Getting around the city is easy, central areas are walk able and the metro is efficient. Taxis are always available.
