- For museum lovers, there is something for everyone. The recently opened Jewish museum celebrates two millennia of German-Jewish history.
- The house at Checkpoint Charlie museum and the East Side Gallery, an open air gallery of the longest preserved section of the Berlin Wall, offer moving reminders of this compelling city’s post-war division.
- Putting aside its history, Berlin is an exciting place to shop. The renowned Kufurstendamm provides 2 miles of superb shopping and is the main shopping street in Berlin. The largest department store on the continent, KaDeWe, which you will find here, is a must for shopping and enjoying a coffee and cake.
- There is also the Friedrichstrasse in the east of the city, with its exclusive Quartier 206 designer fashion mall and Galaries Lafayette department store, making an attractive alternative.
- On a Saturday morning you can wander round the antique shops on Motzstrasse before experiencing the atmosphere of the street market in Winterfeldplatz. Don’t forget that the traditional Christmas Markets across the entire city are held daily form end of Nov to 26 December. These are well worth a visit.
Berlin’s largest park, Tiergarten, is where Berliners like to gather for picnics and barbecues. For coffee shops and great eateries, there is plenty of choice around Friedrichstrasse. With so many cultures in one city you can try cuisine from all round the world in over 7,000 restaurants, bistros and bars. Not all that different to London.
