The Algarve
Set on Portugal’s southern tip, the Algarve is renowned for its world class golf courses and its sun-kissed coastline, which stretch 100 miles from Cape St. Vincent in the west to Vila Real de Santo Antonio on the border with Spain. Its long sandy beaches and warm Mediterranean waters make it a perfect holiday destination for sun, sea and sand. It has a friendly, laid-back atmosphere making it particularly attractive for family holidays. Most of the holiday resorts on the Algarve were formerly just little fishing
villages and remain unspoilt with narrow streets, whitewashed houses and
ancient churches. Faro is the capital of the region and where the airport
is located.

The Algarve has a warm climate and is good all year round. Its location
on the Atlantic means it stays a little cooler than some of the destinations
in the Mediterranean, which means it isn't too hot for the little ones. Even
so, you'd expect to have sunbathing weather from late May – early October.
The food on the Algarve is very international. As it is a popular destination
for other Europeans, particularly the British. You will therefore find all
sorts of food available. Bearing in mind that Portuguese food is based around
fish, and is very tasty, although the kids may not think so!
