Minorca
Minorca is a calm and quiet Balearic island – relaxed like its people. It has clear waters, golden sands, beautiful coves, pretty fishing villages, a rich and varied landscape – in short much local charm. The island is thirty miles long by ten miles wide – easy to explore. You can snorkel, windsurf or canoe; visit the prehistoric monuments and sites; or just relax. For shopping the island has markets for fresh food (especially fish), leather, suede, sweets and biscuits. The key places to visit on the island are:
- The highest peak at Mont Toro – great views
-
The current capital city of Mahon
- The old capital of Ciutadella – with a pretty port and old quarter.
- The giant maze at Son Bou
- The waterparks
Arenal d’en Castell is on the north coast of Minorca and less developed than the rest of the island. It is set in a beautiful horseshoe bay with golden sand. It appeals to families due to its calm waters – excellent for watersports and family entertainment. The coastline is perfect for exploring on foot. The bars and restaurants are well suited to families.
Santo Tomas is on the south coast of the island. This resort is good for families as it is small and relaxing with a great long white beach for watersports. Evenings are quiet and entertainment tends to be at the hotels.
Cala’n Bosch is on the west of the island, set on the dramatic headland
of Cala’n Forcat. It is the most developed resort, with good watersports
and a small sandy beach by day; and a lively nightlife with bars and discos
in the evening. The marina is a bustling area with bars, restaurants and
cafes that have good menus - from fast food to local tapas. This modern resort
is great for families that want to relax together.
