Corfu
Corfu was the first of the Greek islands to grab the attention and win a place in the hearts of its visitors. This lush green island has the busiest, the liveliest and some of the best known Greek resorts. But for all the buzz of high summer, in spring and late summer it reverts to idyllic tranquility. That is the magic of the island.
Corfu is the second largest island in the Ionian group lying at the entrance
of the Adriatic. Corfu is full of natural
beauties, traditional features
and archaeological sites. So if you choose to visit this island then be prepared
for an unparalleled experience.
Corfu, the greenest of all the Greek islands, has three million olive trees. As well as its flower-strewn countryside and Adriatic-style villages, it boasts splendid coastal scenery and the most excellent secluded beaches you’ll ever find.
Corfu has some of the Ionian's most beautiful beaches. You’ll find
a great variety of beaches all around the island. Its long sandy beaches
and lovely coves and bays are famous all over Greece. Sidari, in the north,
has one of the best beaches on the island, a sweeping curve of gently shelving
sand. But generally the west coast has most of the best sandy beaches largely
unspoilt and with plenty of opportunities to escape the crowds.
Eating out in Corfu is excellent value. A lot of tavernas display set menus
at really good prices. At lunchtime what better than Greek bread tomatoes
and feta cheese for a cheap lunch. Be aware though that the menus are likely
to be more expensive harbourside. You will have to pay for the best views.
For a small insight into some of the many resorts that Corfu has to offer
we have selected some recommendations brought to our attention. Messonghi
is described as a popular and lively holiday resort for families and is apparently
ideal for self catering holidays. Kassiopi is also a recommended super resort
family friendly resort. Though there is no immediate beach in Kassiopi, there
is good swimming and excellent snorkeling for the kids nearby. A good thing
for kids is the bars show all the latest DVD films giving them some evening
entertainment. For those looking for some life but also some peace and quiet
then Barbati is the ideal family resort.
